VIP Luncheon Speaker Series Highlights Cutting Edge Science

World-renowned scientists are spurring local innovation by headlining at the VIP Luncheon Speaker Series, a monthly networking event sponsored by Partners Healthcare Innovation. The lectures, held at the new Kendall Square facility housing a large portion of the Innovation team, are sparking dialogue between Partners researchers and CEOs, researchers, venture capitalists, business development leaders and interested parties from the local community.
Last week, Calum MacRae, MD, PhD, Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), steered a lunchtime crowd through the complex world of precision medicine. MacRae described how clinical genomics and powerful new digital tools can expedite drug development and enhance care for people with chronic disease.
The series kicked off last July with presentations by Jeff Golden, MD, Chair of Pathology at BWH and David Louis, MD, Pathologist-in-Chief at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The pair shared their vision for the future of personalized medicine.
In September, photomedicine pioneer Rox Anderson, MD, Director of the MGH Wellman Center for Photomedicine , shared revolutionary results in photomedicine that he and his collaborators have brought to patients around the globe.
Rudy Tanzi PhD, MGH Vice Chair of Neurology, took the stage in November to describe new breakthroughs in Alzheimer’s research. Tanzi described links between the neurodegenerative disease and infection, and his “Alzheimer’s in a Dish” technology that can revolutionize clinical research and lead to better treatments.
The December Speaker Series featured Nino Chiocca, MD, PhD,BWH Chair of Neurosurgery. Chiocca described therapies that harness the power of the immune system to attack and eliminate brain cancer cells among other objectives.
The VIP Luncheon Speaker Series will continue in March 22 with a presentation by Vijay Kuchroo, DVM, PhD, Director of the BWH Evergrande Center for Immunologic Diseases. The Speaker Series is held every four to six weeks.
“The concept of the series is to provide a continuing intimate exchange among our top scientists, clinicians and exectuves with the Cambridge innovation and investment community,” said Chris Coburn, Chief Innovation Officer for Partners HealthCare. “We have had a terrific response to date.”
