Dr. Prem S. Shekar is the chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and surgical director of the Heart and Vascular Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). In addition, he is an assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Shekar received his medical degree from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute in India. He completed two residencies in India: one in surgery at Command Hospital Airforce and the other in cardiothoracic surgery at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research. Dr. Shekar then completed cardiothoracic surgery residency programs at Fremantle Hospital and Royal Adelaide Hospital, both in Australia. He also completed a cardiac surgery fellowship at BWH. He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
