William Lane, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and Director of Clinical Laboratory Informatics and Assistant Director of the Tissue Typing Laboratory at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Boston, MA. He is board certified in Clinical Pathology, Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and Clinical Informatics. He has a strong interest in developing innovative education initiatives which has lead to being a co-founder and co-editor of Transfusion Medicine Question of the Day (http://pathquestions.com) and co-founder of PosterCast (http://postercast.com). His research interests include red blood cell and platelet antigen typing using next generation sequencing and is a founding member of the Blood Transfusion Genomics Consortium. He has applied his interest in blood antigens with his informatics skills to create a curated database of red blood cell and platelet antigen molecular changes (http://bloodantigens.com), followed by development of an automated next generation sequencing antigen typing software called bloodTyper (http://bloodantigens.com/bloodtyper).
